Alex Cañas’s journey in the hospitality industry began at a young age, working for the renowned celebrity chef José Andrés in Washington, D.C. Starting as a food runner, Alex quickly moved up to serving and bartending roles. His career took shape at José Andrés's flagship restaurant, Jaleo, where he worked for five years before transitioning to Oyamel Cocina Mexicana. At Oyamel, Alex spent nearly a decade perfecting his craft as a server and bartender, where he found his true passion behind the bar.
Alex’s expertise in Tequila and Mezcal was recognized early on. In 2008, he earned certification from the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) for his extensive knowledge of Tequila and his skill in crafting Tequila cocktails. His dedication to mastering the art of mixology continued to grow, leading him to explore innovative techniques in cocktail creation and spirit infusion.
In 2022, Alex was invited to visit Patrón's hacienda, where he spent four days immersing himself in the Tequila-making process and refining his cocktail-crafting skills. This experience deepened his appreciation for the intricacies of Tequila production and inspired him to bring new flavors and concepts to life.
Today, Alex serves as the Beverage Director for Que Hospitality, where he curates and crafts cocktails across all three of the group's concepts. His expertise ensures that every menu, from regular offerings to specialty cocktails, delivers a unique and memorable experience.
On his days off, Alex continues to expand his knowledge by visiting other restaurants and bars, always seeking inspiration and new ideas. He also enjoys exploring Charlotte with his dog, Oreo.
